Artists respond to the world they find themselves encapsulated by. “That was Zen, this is now” finds Roddy Reason in acoustic reflective mode. The collection of 10 originals and one cover are a trip into the geography and head space that is the south coast of NSW.
Sparsely instrumental and almost organic, the songs resonate with Roddy’s deep love of family and place. The vocals tilt a cap to Van Morrison and Bon Iver but the genre could best be described as bush pop with a folkish and definitely Australian bent. In the end the beautiful wandering melodies of Roddy’s acoustic guitar will draw you in and then, hopefully, the lyrics will find a place in your heart.
